UW-Milwaukee - 2200 E. Kenwood Blvd.Bring real-world financial literacy classroom with Reality Check Day!
Reality Check Day is an award-winning financial literacy event offered by Educators Credit Union. Reality Check day offers a 90-minute interactive simulation of what life is like once students leave the classroom and are free to
experience the real world. Students go through life’s most important stages and experience financial gains or losses using the Bite of Reality mobile app.
During the session, students are given the option of selecting their occupation, while other areas of their life are randomly assigned, such as credit score, marital
status, and if they must pay child support. Each student also decides their retirement age and are tasked with using their budgeting skills to reach this retirement goal.
Students then travel to each station representing a life event. Housing, insurance, groceries, apparel, furniture, entertainment and daycare necessities can be purchased, and bills can be paid as needed. The costs of items are
regularly updated to reflect local prices and to ensure students are getting the most realistic experience. The Wheel of Fate is a fun addition where students
earn or lose money with unpredictable life events.
