Elementary:  Building blocks for success and affirming accomplishments

MPS schools put students on the path to academic success through extended literacy blocks to build and reinforce reading skills; rigorous instruction in core subjects; and access to art, music, physical education and technology. Many elementary schools also offer mentoring, tutoring, character development and leadership opportunities to strengthen interpersonal and social development.

Neighborhood schools offer solid curriculum and are solid anchors in their communities. Specialty schools allow students to focus on a particular aspect of their education. Specialty school options include the arts, bilingual, gifted and talented, language immersion and Montessori. Families may consider grade spans in their school selection — K-5 for families who want their child to transition to a middle school; K-8 for parents who want their child to stay in one setting until high school.
