Kindergarten Enrollment

Do you have a child turning 3, 4, or 5 this summer*?

Apply for Kindergarten

1. Visit the MPS Online Registration webpage.
2. Choose a language (English or Spanish)
3. Select "Start New Application"
4. Complete the initial registration form at the end of the webpage. For "Registration Type", select "Kindergarten".

*If you miss the kindergarten enrollment window, you will be able to enroll your child, but some schools may be filled. During this time, seats are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Important Enrollment Considerations

• High schools fill all available seats during High School Enrollment, held from October until the first Monday in November every year.
• Some charter and partnership schools require students to enroll onsite, while others enroll through Kindergarten Enrollment or assignment from Central Services. The enrollment policy for each school is listed on its web page. For more information, visit the Find a School webpage.
• Sibling preference. During Kindergarten Enrollment, priority is given to siblings of students who are currently attending the school or are already enrolled for the upcoming school year. Sibling preference may not apply at high schools with  selection criteria required for admission.
• Enrollment after Kindergarten Enrollment. Once the Kindergarten Enrollment period ends, some schools may still have open seats. These seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Middle School Enrollment. Applications for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade will open the first week of February.  K-8 schools and middle schools will be available on the application.
• Public School Open Enrollment - Students outside the MPS district may apply to MPS schools during Open Enrollment (beginning in February). For more information, visit the Open Enrollment page of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction website at www2.dpi.state. wi.us/OpenEnrollApp.

Milwaukee 8th Graders

MPS High School enrollment opens the first weekend in October. Attend the High School Enrollment Fair to learn about program offerings and apply to any MPS school that fits your interests and goals! Apply to MPS high schools by the first Monday in November for the best opportunity to be admitted to the school of your choice.

Each year, High School Enrollment will run from the first weekend in October to the first Monday in November. Students who are enrolled during this period have a better chance of being placed in their first-choice school.

Enrollment reopens in February for students who missed High School Enrollment and remains open until August 1. Seats are then filled on a first-come, first-served basis
