stem fair logoOur students are the future scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and technologists who will lead our country into further advancement in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The MPS STEM Fair aims to showcase those students who have worked on STEM projects that utilize inquiry skills and create innovative solutions to everyday problems.

The MPS STEM Fair takes place annually in the spring. This year's fair will take place on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Miller Park. Schools are invited to send science inquiry and engineering design projects from students in four-year-old kindergarten through grade 12. Judges representing informal education partners, businesses, and higher education institutions from the community collaborate to judge the students on a variety of criteria, including the following:

  • Asking questions (for science) and defining problems (for engineering)
  • Developing and using models
  • Planning and carrying out investigations
  • Analyzing and interpreting data
  • Using mathematics and computational thinking
  • Constructing explanations (for science) and designing solutions (for engineering)
  • Engaging in argument from evidence
  • Obtaining, evauating, and communicating information
