Human Growth and Development Curriculum

Milwaukee Public Schools has worked with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and community partners to develop our own sex education curriculum called the MPS human growth and development (HGD) curriculum. This curriculum is recognized as a best-practice, abstinence-based, comprehensive  sex education curriculum. The curriculum is used in other districts across the state. During the school year, all MPS students will participate in their health classes in the MPS HGD curriculum.

Parents/guardians will receive a permission form for students to opt out of some of the lessons. Most lessons in each grade level have more to do with interpersonal communication and decision making than specific, sexually related topics. So students should not be opted out of all  lessons. Please review the lessons; if you have questions, please contact your child’s teacher.
