Tutoring Opportunities

MPS is committed to fostering student success by providing supports and ensuring that students have ample opportunities to improve their academic achievement. During the 2023–24 school year, the extended learning opportunities office will continue to offer multiple tutoring programming opportunities to all MPS schools and students who are interested. Opportunities are flexible and offer multiple variations, including during school, after school, one-on-one, in small groups, virtually, and in person.

Tutoring Programming Availabilities

  During-School Tutoring

Goal: In-school options provide tutoring by contracted vendors to students of focused grade levels in specific subject areas. School sites and contracted vendors work together to address academic struggles and to accelerate student learning.

Services:

  • One-on-one reading K–12
  • One-on-one math K–12
  • Small-group reading K–12
  • Small-group math K–12
  • Peer tutoring K–8
  After-School/Saturday Tutoring

Goal: After-school options provide tutoring by currently employed MPS teachers and paraprofessionals to students of all grade levels in multiple subject areas. School sites are given the autonomy to develop programming plans that will best benefit their students and families.

  Virtual Tutoring (On Demand/Structured)

Goal: Virtual tutoring provides two tutoring options: on demand or structured. Virtual tutoring takes place through an online platform by contracted vendors with licensed tutors and teaching professionals. This tutoring option can be accessed anytime, anywhere, for anything! This tutoring option is geared toward supporting students outside of the school setting. 


Virtual On-Demand Tutoring

Parents can book live tutoring sessions with a tutor twenty-four hours in advance through a virtual tutoring platform. Students can get help with any subject that they would like assistance with. This virtual tutoring option is available in multiple languages to students of all grade levels in multiple subject areas.

Services:

  • One-on-one all subjects
  • One-on-one all grade levels
  • All students who request tutoring

Offering:

  • One-on-one tutoring with a live virtual tutor
  • Up to three tutoring sessions per week
  • Sessions of thirty to forty-five minutes in length to focus on a topic/skill


Virtual Structured Tutoring

Students will take an ELA/reading and/or math assessment assigned to their account. A customized learning plan will be created for your student based on the assessment results. Upon completion of the assessment(s), you can enter your availability, and the learning platform will schedule you with a dedicated tutor who will work with you through a structured growth plan.

Services:

  • One-on-one ELA/reading and/or math
  • One-on-one all grade levels
  • All students who request tutoring

Offering:

  • One-on-one tutoring with a live virtual tutor
  • Up to three tutoring sessions per week
  • Sessions of thirty to forty-five minutes in length to focus on a topic/skill
