Adventure Information

  • Extended Learning Opportunities is sponsoring several adventures with community partners for students.
  • Most adventures are FREE of charge for MPS students and city of Milwaukee residents (MPS students receive priority registration).
  • Adventures may be held during non-school days, winter, spring, and/or summer breaks.
  • Some adventures require parent drop-off and pick-up as well as a bag lunch.

Registration Reminders

  • Space is limited. If submitting more than one registration, it may be necessary to limit one opportunity per child based on availability.
  • MPS students receive priority registration. Non-MPS students will be notified via email if spots become available only if all necessary forms are completed. Priority registration is also given to students who have never participated in an extended learning adventure through ELO.
  • PLEASE NOTE: When completing forms, make sure to select the grade based on the criteria listed.
  • Families will receive an email communication confirming enrollment status. Email addresses should be current and accurate on registration forms.
  • Registration will close either when full or one week prior to the start date.
  • If it becomes necessary to cancel your child's registration, please contact (414) 475-8238 or email elo@milwaukee.k12.wi.us. Non-attendance may affect future participation.

Non-School-Day Adventure Descriptions

  • Zoological Society Classes (ages 0–9)

    • 8 participants ages 0–2 each with an adult (which for 9/30 the stroller class is with adult as well) for Hands, Feet, and Sometimes Tails 10:45–11:45 a.m.
    • 12 participants ages 4–5 with an adult for Rockin' Reptiles 9:15–11:30 a.m.
    • 18 participants, child only, ages 6–9 for Animals on the Move 9:15–11:45 a.m.
    • Descriptions of classes for November

Ages 0–2 with Adult

November — Hands, Feet, and Sometimes Tails: Join us as we swing over to see the gorillas, orangutans, and spider monkeys. Let’s find out how these primates use their hands, feet, fingers, and toes (and sometimes tails!) to eat, move, and play. Sing a song to practice body part identification with your primate baby.

Ages 4–5 with Adult

November — Rockin' Reptiles: Awesome alligators, super snakes, and terrific turtles! Meet a rockin’ reptile in the classroom and find out what makes these animals special. Turn into an alligator, create your own snake that “sheds,” and build an alligator nest. Then slither over to the Aquatic and Reptile Center to see these creatures in action.

Ages 6–9 Child Only

November — Animals on the Move: Why do some animals pick up and leave once a year? Where do they go and how do they find their way back? Discover why some animals such as birds, butterflies, caribou, and whales make this amazing journey. Travel around the world "side by side" with migrating animals as you visit the zoo's magnificent migrators and make your own migration creation to take home.

Grades 5–8

Anytime, Anywhere Conversations: From a teacher, parent, investor, teammate, boss, or friend, students learn the framework to have a conversation with anyone who moves their desired goals and dreams to the next step and builds relationships for a lifetime. Framework learning gets put into action through a range of emotional, hilarious, and dramatic real-life role-play scenarios.

Grades 9–12

Grades 7–12

Money and Dream Life: Having money to do all the "things" is probably part of a dream life. Students get the things, necessary and desired, on paper by running the numbers and creating physical visual boards. Then with the price tag of their dream life in hand, they begin to explore how starting a business venture can make the price tag achievable.

Grades 5–8 (3 days/3 hours per day)

Big Ideas and Small Business: Constraint breeds creativity and ideas breed businesses. Using only the provided mystery materials available, students will brainstorm ideas and create a minimum viable product that can be sold to family and friends.
