Adventure Information

  • Extended Learning Opportunities is sponsoring several adventures with community partners for students.
  • Most adventures are FREE of charge for MPS students and city of Milwaukee residents (MPS students receive priority registration).
  • Adventures may be held during non-school days and winter, spring, and summer breaks.
  • Some adventures require parent drop-off and pickup as well as a bag lunch.

Registration Reminders

  • Space is limited. If submitting more than one registration, it may be necessary to limit one opportunity per child based on availability. 
  • MPS students receive priority registration. Non-MPS students will be notified via email if spots become available only if all necessary forms are completed. Priority registration is also given to students who have never participated in an extended learning adventure through ELO. 
  • PLEASE NOTE: When completing forms, make sure to select the grade based on the criteria listed.
  • Families will receive an email communication confirming enrollment status. Email addresses should be current and accurate on registration forms.
  • Registration will close either when full or one week prior to the start date.
  • If it becomes necessary to cancel your child's registration, please contact (414) 475-8238 or email elo@milwaukee.k12.wi.us. Non-attendance may affect future participation. 
  • To register for the Extended Learning Adventure below, complete and submit the 24-25 Adventure Participation Request form.

Urban Ecology Center Scholarships for MPS Students

Grade levels below are based on the student’s grade in the 2024–25 school year. Scholarships are available for the following camps. Transportation is not provided, and students will need a bag lunch for these adventures.

Join the Urban Ecology Center for a delightful spring break outdoors, where your kids can enjoy hikes, explore tree climbing, observe birds, catch bugs, and play in the park. We encourage curious minds through outdoor activities, fun games, imaginative play, and plenty more.

"Spring" into an awesome day of animal antics! During this one-day camp, students will jump into career exploration and meet some animal friends.

Milwaukee Repertory Theater Scholarship for MPS Students

Grade levels below are based on the student’s grade in the 2024–25 school year. Scholarships are available for the following camps. Transportation is not provided, and students will need a bag lunch for these adventures.

The Milwaukee Rep is offering a five-session adventure that will teach students the basics of acting, public speaking, collaboration, and cooperation while also supporting literacy and social-emotional learning. The "Adventure in Acting" camp gives students the opportunity to bring a short play to life for their friends and family. Students will explore auditioning, scriptwork, character creation, blocking, and more, all while playing games, building confidence, and having fun. All students will get a speaking role! Classes will consist of two hour-long segments with a snack break.  Come join the fun!

Dates: Saturdays: January 25,  February 1, February 8, February 15 and February 22

Building Ensemble and Intro to Script Work

  • Identify the three actor tools: voice, body, and imagination
  • Identify the two actor skills: cooperation and concentration
  • Make creative and appropriate choices to create a scene
  • Identify the different areas of a stage
  • Understand how to read a script
  • Identify main plot elements of a story and act them out

Week 2:
Ages 7–12

Saturday, February 1, 2025

Auditioning and Start of Blocking 

  • Demonstrate projection skills
  • Perform in front of classmates
  • Show support and appreciation to classmates
  • Recall information about stage directions and character leads
  • Become aware of their bodies in space with regard to an audience
  • Participate productively and to the best of their ability in the rehearsal process

Week 3:

Ages 7–12

Saturday, February 8, 2025 
9:30 a.m.–noon

Characterization and Intro to ROOTS: Relationships, Objectives, Obstacles, Tactics, and Stakes

  • Establish and reorganize relationships shown physically
  • Demonstrate awareness of how physical choices convey meaning
  • Create distinct characters through different styles of movement
  • Understand the elements of the acronym ROOTS
  • Identify ROOTS within a scene or story
  • Work within an ensemble toward a goal

Week 4:

Ages 7–12

Saturday, February 15, 2025 
9:30 a.m.–noon

Stage Picture and Making Bold Choices

  • Identify what makes a good stage picture
  • Create stage pictures that clearly tell a story
  • Give and take energy from partner(s)
  • Make bold choices in a scene
  • Take notes and suggestions while performing
  • Demonstate self-control and self-awareness while acting

Week 5:
Ages 7–12

Saturday, February 22, 2025 
9:30 a.m.–noon

Dress Rehearsal and Final Performance

  • Work collaboratively on stage
  • Develop props, costumes, and set pieces for performance
  • Demonstrate performance-ready behavior on and off stage 
  • Review all terms and concepts as a group
  • Get up in front of group and present in an ensemble


Transportation 

Families are responsible for transporting the student to and from the Milwaukee Rep "Adventure in Acting" camp located at the  Milwaukee Public Library in Bay View. 

Lunch

Students also need a bag lunch each day.
