What are some common milestones for 3- to 6-month-old babies?

Among common milestones for babies this age:

  • They begin to babble.
  • They babble with expression and copy sounds they hear.
  • They cry in different ways to show hunger, pain, or being tired.
  • They respond to sounds by making sounds.

What are some tips when "talking" with a 3- to 6-month-old baby?

Remember, your baby is learning how people talk to each other.

You help your baby become a "talker" when you do these things:

  • Hold your baby close so he will look you in your eyes.
  • Talk to her and smile.
  • When your baby babbles, imitate the sounds.
  • If your baby tries to make the same sound you do, say the word again.
