  • Identification of children with hearing impairments
  • Determination of the range, nature, and degree of hearing loss
  • Referral for medical and other professional and education necessities for the habilitation of hearing
  • Administration of programs for prevention of hearing loss and the promotion of auditory skill development for all children
  • Counseling and guidance for children, parents, and teachers regarding hearing loss
  • Determination of children’s need for individual and/or group amplification
  • Selection and fitting of appropriate assisted listening device(s)
  • Evaluation of the effectiveness of amplification and assistive listening devices
  • Repair and/or modification of assisted listening devices

MPS audiology services are provided by two citywide audiologists who oversee the districtwide audiology program. In addition, the audiologists perform comprehensive hearing assessments for any MPS student referred due to failed hearing screenings in school. Hearing screenings are available for all MPS students. If you have concerns about your child’s hearing, please contact the speech-language pathologist at your child’s school.
