Locally sourced food

Milwaukee Public Schools provides our students with healthy, local, and fresh food. We strive to teach our students a way of eating that promotes well-being for the individual, community, and the earth.

• We choose vendors that produce food within a 250 mile radius of MPS.
• MPS provides a variety of locally produced milk, ice cream, hot dog buns, hamburger buns, dinner rolls, and bread sticks. Our apple slices and many frozen vegetables are grown right here in Wisconsin!
• We support school gardens.
• MPS participated in the USDA Pilot Project for Procurement of Unprocessed Fruits and Vegetables. This project supported our Farm-to-School efforts by allowing MPS the ability to have a geographic preference in procurement.
