Family Dispute Resolution Process

Milwaukee Public Schools is committed to helping parents and families find equitable solutions when there are disagreements or misunderstandings about their child’s education or learning environment. The goal of our dispute resolution process is to provide an avenue for parents and families to work with school leadership and MPS staff to quickly resolve school based concerns.

Hardship Transfers

Families are encouraged to discuss the need for a change in schools with the school leader at their child’s school. In some cases, the family and assigned school may be able to accommodate the parent to relieve the hardship. The Department of Student Services may ask for additional information and reserves the right to approve or deny a request. Hardship Transfers should not complete a complaint form, unless the staff determines this is not a hardship and instead a complaint.

If you need additional assistance, please contact your child’s school or call the central office switchboard at 414-475-8393 for assistance. Milwaukee Public Schools uses a phone-based interpreting service called Language Line. This service is available 24/7.
