Congratulations to Shannon Grant, a teacher at Walt Whitman Elementary teacher, who was selected to attend the 2014 Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy!
The academy focuses on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education. This year’s academy will be held in July in Jersey City, N.J.
The Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy was launched in 2005 to provide third-through fifth-grade teachers with tools to enhance curricula, networking opportunities and to help discover innovative ways to teach math and science to students. Since 2005, more than 4,000 teachers have attended the Academy—impacting the lives of nearly 300,000 students nationwide.
The Send My Teacher website received more than 1,100 applicants from across the country. The selection panel, which included teachers from National Science Teachers Association (NTSA) and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), based its decision on qualifications, dedication to inspiring students and overall commitment to enhancing the teaching profession.
