Paraprofessionals

paraprofessional with students at lincoln avenue schoolParaprofessionals play a vital role at Milwaukee Public Schools to provide academic and behavioral support to students and assist with other important responsibilities. A current resume should be submitted with the online application.

Eligible candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

  • At least 48 college credits OR
  • A passing score on a Department of Public Instruction approved assessment (Information on DPI website)

MPS offers the ParaPro Assessment. Interested candidates may apply for the opportunity to take the test by applying on our website to the position titled "Paraprofessional - Tested Candidate Pool".  The ParaPro Assessment costs $55.00.

Upon hire, all Paraprofessionals within MPS, regardless of actual assignment, are required to apply for and receive a Special Education Program Aide License from the Department of Public Instruction. The cost for the license is $100.00. Fola Parrett, License Compliance Associate, will contact you via email with the needed paperwork and instructions to apply. To ensure continued employment in this position make sure that you apply for the required license within sixty (60) days of your hire date.
