Student Teaching

Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) is committed to attracting, supporting, and retaining the next generation of educators who are interested in, knowledgeable about, and dedicated to working in an urban school district. In collaboration with universities/colleges that are seeking student placements in urban settings, the district works to ensure that university/college students will have an opportunity to further develop, enrich and enhance their skills and dispositions in order to work effectively with diverse student populations in a variety of educational settings

University/college students receiving placements in MPS work under the guidance of highly skilled and highly qualified cooperating teachers who have successfully completed a cooperating teacher course and/or seminar. These individuals have a working knowledge of the Wisconsin Teacher/Pupil Service Standards, PI 34, the Wisconsin Academic Standards, the Characteristics of a High Performing Urban Classroom and best practices in teaching and learning.
