Superintendent Posley addressed MLK Day celebration throughout the district

Statement from Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Keith P. Posley

Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) Superintendent Dr. Keith P. Posley issued the following statement in commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day:

“Today, we celebrate the life of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a man whose life was dedicated to ending racism and poverty. His non-violent strategy helped lead the way for significant strides towards equity in the United States. Each of us should be grateful for the sacrifices he made in the name of civil rights, economic justice, and education.

"Dr. King once said the goal of education is to build intelligence plus character. As a district, we strive to equip all of our young people with these qualities so that they are prepared to think critically and effectively as individuals and as a collective.

"While we have seen progress, the road to freedom and prosperity remains elusive for many. As we fight for peace and unity in our community and across our country, let us all reflect and remember the contributions of Dr. King. I challenge all of us to honor his legacy by addressing any injustice we see and continuing the work for equity for everyone.”

Please wait while we gather your results.
