It’s almost time to return to the classroom already! I hope that your family's summer has been filled with fun and relaxation. The start of a new school year is always an exciting time with the hustle and bustle of preparing school supplies, planning to see school friends, and most importantly - setting goals for your child's education. Here are nine things that you should know about the 2021-2022 school year!

1. School Calendars for 2021-2022

Early Start schools begin Monday, August 16, 2021. Traditional Start schools begin Thursday, September 2, 2021. Our early start and traditional school calendars are available in multiple languages. Our contract schools may follow different calendars. Download your calendar by visiting our calendar webpage.

2. What to Expect

  • All MPS schools will be open for in-person learning five days per week.
  • School buildings will be open to the public, and families should contact the school office to schedule a visit.
  • MPS will require face coverings to be worn in all buildings, schools, and on buses. Face coverings will not be required outdoors or while individuals are eating or drinking.
  • Students and staff will practice three feet physical distance, and classrooms and common areas will have a HEPA filter.
  • High-contact areas will be cleaned regularly throughout the day.

3. Student Gmail Accounts

If these dates don’t work for you, find another opportunity here.

5. College Conversations

The school counseling team will host a virtual series to provide MPS staff, parents, and students with the most current information and resources for college planning -- there is still time to participate! The topics will cover the college application process, financial aid resources, athletics, and selecting the best-fit institution. Participants will learn from MPS school counselors and local experts in the field of postsecondary planning. See the flyer for specific topics, dates, and times and register through our form. If you have additional questions, please contact Karolyn Taylor, scholarship coordinator, at

All student-athletes must register through this online portal ( to participate in the fall high school sports season.

To assist with the updated registration process, MPS Athletics is offering an in-person date to help families sign up with the new system. Please stop by South Division on Saturday, July 24 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. for assistance. You can also see your school’s athletic director or call 414-475-8219 to get involved and make high school count!

8. 14th Annual Run Back to School

Sign up for the Parent Portal! Contact your child’s school to sign up for an Infinite Campus Parent Portal account. The school secretary will ask you some questions to verify your identity. The secretary will provide you with an activation key for signing up. Once you have registered, you can access the Infinite Campus Parent Portal online at or through an Infinite Campus mobile application and view your child’s schedule, attendance, grades, and more!
