Message to MPS Families Regarding King High School Basketball Game

Greetings MPS Families,

I want to share with everyone that Milwaukee Public Schools is committed to the safety of students, families, staff, and our community. Our School Safety team and our amazing staff are vigilant during school hours and after-school activities for any situations that might impact the safety of our MPS community.

During a basketball game at Rufus King High School on the evening of February 1, 2022, an incident took place outside the school that required a response from the Milwaukee Police Department. As a precaution to maintain the safety of athletes and spectators, the building was locked and no one was allowed to enter or leave. When the police officers notified staff that the scene was under control, the basketball game resumed. Police remained at the school until the game concluded and everyone left safely.

At this time, Milwaukee Police have identified a suspect who is not part of the Rufus King community.

We encourage everyone in our district and community to remain vigilant by watching their surroundings and traveling swiftly to and from school buildings, especially at night.
