Dear MPS Families and Colleagues,

As we enter Thanksgiving week, I want to express my gratitude for everyone in our MPS community. In many ways, large and small, all of you help our students succeed! Please accept my thanks and know that I appreciate our families who are partners in their children’s education along with our inspiring educators and staff who promote successful learning. I hope you have time to relax with your loved ones during this well-deserved break. Our students will enjoy time off from school November 24–26.

I have a few important reminders and updates to share.

Friday, December 10, 2021, will be an early release day for all students.  In the afternoon, students will be expected to complete and practice schoolwork assigned by school staff asynchronously at home. Bus schedules will be adjusted for the earlier release time. Schools will provide more information about specific schedules.

You may see some new faces around your school! Central Service staff are supporting our schools to ensure all schools are adequately staffed to give children the best possible learning experience. To support our schools, we are actively recruiting retired educators and others to work with our young people. To learn more visit,

The COVID-19 vaccine is approved for all children age 5 and older! Thank you to the many families who have already had their children vaccinated. To assist families, MPS will continue to offer vaccine clinics in schools. Please see attached flyer for dates, times, and locations. Vaccines are also available from health care providers, many pharmacies, and Milwaukee Health Department clinics. I encourage you to learn more about protecting your family by getting vaccinated. In addition, the Milwaukee Board of School Directors has approved a $100 incentive for children ages 5 to 11 who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by January 14, 2022. More information will be shared with families in the coming weeks.

Register for a high school sports team by TODAY! MPS student-athletes build friendships, learn new skills, and create lifelong memories. Winter sports offered are basketball (boys/girls); boys swimming/diving; wrestling (boys/girls); and cheerleading. All student-athletes must register by November 22 through the online portal at See your school’s athletic director or call 414-475-8219 for more information. MPS students can get a free physical exam to participate in sports. Concentra has multiple locations throughout the city. Download the attached flyer for locations and phone numbers to schedule an appointment.

I am truly grateful for the role our MPS community plays in educating young people and preparing the next generation for success. I wish all of you many blessings over the Thanksgiving holiday. You are appreciated!
