August 14, 2020
Dear MPS Staff,
I hope you are as excited as I am for the start of the new school year! Classes begin Monday, August 17, for early start schools.
I want to thank everyone who participated in Back-to-School Spirit Week! We received many inspiring and creative photos and videos from our student, staff and friends of MPS. I encourage you to browse social media and see how our students are excited to start school.
The safety of our students, staff, and community is our top priority. In the coming months, as we embark on virtual learning to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we will be depending on your expertise, creativity, and feedback to ensure that every MPS student receives a quality education.
Please continue to follow practices to promote your health and safety and reduce the spread of COVID-19.
- Wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds
- Practice physical distancing
- Cover your mouth and nose with a face covering
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces
- Stay home if you are sick
The district is offering two virtual family engagement sessions to give families an understanding of the technology and resources that will be used to educate students during Phase One of the MPS Reopening Plan. Tools and tips will be shared to support students using Chromebooks at home during virtual learning. Families will learn about best practices, ask questions, and get ready for a successful school year. Please invite all MPS families to attend one of the two Zoom sessions – the Virtual Family Engagement flyer is attached.
As a reminder, schools on the Traditional Calendar begin class on Tuesday, September 1, 2020. Please help families find all school calendars on the district’s school calendars web page.
On behalf of the entire district, I want to thank all of you for your hard work and dedication. I know we will succeed this school year!
Have a wonderful year!
Dr. Keith P. Posley
Superintendent of Schools
