Dear MPS Staff,
What an extraordinary year in every sense of the word! We started off with virtual learning and made the best of it, demonstrating our ability to adapt and be flexible in unusual circumstances. Our students were able to return to school in-person by April and interact with their fellow classmates and school staff face to face. Our youngest students went to school in a building for the first time ever since the pandemic and received an especially warm welcome! Our athletes were able to compete again. Our high school graduates were able to physically walk across the stage this year. I cannot thank you all enough for all the hard work and dedication to our students this past year!
We are on track for some wonderful summer engagement opportunities. Summer Academy has a high enrollment this year and I’m excited to visit the schools and students that are participating. MKE Rec has a large amount of safe, fun, and affordable recreation and enrichment activities. Many programs are free or low-cost, and youth scholarships are available. Our College and Career Centers also remain open over summer and offer students assistance with job applications, college applications and essays, financial aid applications, scholarships, and much more!
I hope that you can relax and have a safe and healthy summer. In fall, we are excited to return to full in-person learning five days a week! There will be a virtual option available for families as well. Getting back to “normal” will still require some extra safety and health precautions, but I am confident that together we will make this work.
Remember to stay in touch with MPS over summer! Download the MPS App for iOS or Android. Opt-in to receive district communications from SchoolMessenger by sending a text message to 67587 with “Y” from any mobile phone you would like to receive messages. Sign up for our newsletters; follow us on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Twitter; and check your work email regularly to stay updated. I also encourage you to regularly visit the MPS Newsrooms page where you can find messages for staff, families, and the community as well as web stories and news items!
