Student COVID-19 Vaccine Incentive
To encourage vaccination, Milwaukee Public Schools is offering an incentive to students age 12 years and older who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by November 1, 2021. The incentive will be provided as a $100 rewards card that can be used as cash. To receive the rewards card, parents/guardians must complete an application and provide proof of full vaccination no later than November 15, 2021.

Save the date! Milwaukee's annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration will be held virtually on January 17, 2022. Students who wish to enter the art, speech, and writing contests should read rules now and prepare to submit their work. This year's theme is "We Must Speak."

Emergency Connectivity for Students
Students who qualify can receive a Chromebook and/or hotspot from MPS for use at home through a grant from the federal Emergency Connectivity Fund. Devices will be available during the second semester. Families can fill out an online form for each student in the household at https://mpsmke.com/techecf through Wednesday, November 24, 2021.
Join the Equitable Access Work Group!
MPS is forming a work group of parents/guardians to review equitable access to creative rigorous curricula, advanced course offerings, and welcoming school environments for middle and high school students. Participants will learn about programs, identify any inequities, and provide recommendations to the Milwaukee Board of School Directors. The commitment includes attendance at three virtual meetings from 5:30–6:30 P.M. on October 27, November 11, and December 1, 2021.
Participants who cannot attend the sessions will need to review the recorded meetings and provide feedback after each scheduled session. If you are interested, please register at MS/HS Equity Work Group.

Wisconsin Challenge Academy is designed for high school students who have fallen behind in school and are at risk of not graduating. Challenge Academy uses proven practices to help students gain the values, education, and self-discipline necessary to succeed. Youth have the chance to get on track to earn their diploma! MPS Weekly Spotlight
Mike Wenzel Honored for 60 Years of Service
The MPS Department of Athletics has honored former teacher Mike Wenzel for 60 years of service to the district. Mike was presented with a plaque during halftime at South Stadium on October 15, 2021. A physical education teacher for 34 years, Mike has also played on the field, worked the chains, worked concessions, officiated games, and served as the field manager. He provided valuable input into the South Stadium renovations in 2014. Mike says he is simply doing what he loves. Watch a video on TMJ4 of Mike's inspiring story!

Let's Say Good-Bye to COVID!
We all need to do our part to put an end to COVID-19. Following practices to eliminate COVID can help end the pandemic.
- Wear a face mask in public, even if you are vaccinated.
- Maintain 3 feet of physical distancing.
- Wash hands frequently, especially when returning home.
Check your child every morning for signs of illness. Keep them home if symptoms are present, and contact a health care provider to ask about testing.
ONE of the following symptoms
- Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing
- New loss of taste or smell
TWO or more symptoms
- Fever of 100.4° F or above
- Sore throat
- Muscle or body aches
- New onset of headache
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting

Updated parent guides to assist in understanding standards-based report cards are now available for the 2021-22 school year. Two versions are available for Elementary/K-8 Report Cards and Middle School/High School Report Cards. These guides are especially helpful for families who are new to Milwaukee Public Schools. MATC Gap Year Program
Are you a high school graduate from the class of 2020 or 2021? Do you need help making a plan for college? The MATC Gap Year Program is for graduates who have not started college and are searching for guidance.
- Program is FREE and runs Dec. 9, 2021, to March 24, 2022.
- Participants receive career exploration and education planning support.
- Transportation, lunch, and snacks are included.
- Program is limited to 25 students.

10-Digit Phone Dialing Begins October 24
Starting on October 24, all phone calls to Wisconsin locations will require the three-digit area code in addition to the seven-digit phone number. A total of 82 area codes across the country will also follow this practice. Be sure to update your contact lists to dial the 10-digit phone number!
Student Meals Available for Pick-up
Families with children enrolled in an MPS virtual program can pick up meals beginning August 16. Each child will receive breakfast and lunch, while supplies last. Pre-orders are NOT required.
