MPS Offers Learning Supports

The new virtual school year has begun, and MPS has channels of support for students and families who are embarking on online learning. Find the help you need for a successful school year!

Answers to many questions can be found on the MPS website or the MPS School Reopening website.

For questions about your child’s progress and grades, log in to Infinite Campus or contact your child’s teacher. Questions about the school year, policies, and procedures can be addressed to your child’s principal or school leader.

The Parent Coordinator at your child’s school is available for guidance about many types of family resources, student needs, and community supports.

Chromebook Issues: Email the MPS Technology Support Center at tsc@milwaukee.k12.wi.us or call (414) 438-3400; include a phone number, school name, student name and ID number, and description of the problem in the email so we can contact you.

Video tutorials are available to help families get started with Chromebooks, access online classrooms and Clever, and find step-by-step help.

For specific questions regarding a child with disabilities, call the Department of Specialized Services at (414) 438-3648.

Families who need support for English language learners can call (414) 777-7806.

News and Updates - September 4, 2020

Student Meal Distribution

MPS will continue meal distribution to students. Locations and hours are being expanded for the new school year.

PLEASE NOTE: Meals will NOT be distributed on Friday, September 4 and Monday, September 7 due to school closures for the Labor Day holiday.

·     Beginning Monday, August 24, sites are open from 11:00 A.M. to 1:30 P.M., Monday through Friday.

·     Beginning Tuesday, September 1, 26 new sites will be open for meal distribution; a complete list is available on the MPS website.

·     Students with special dietary needs and religious restrictions can now request specialty meals at http://mpsmke.com/stopgrabgo. Requests must be submitted a minimum of two days prior to meal pick-up at a Stop, Grab, and Go location.

Due to federal guidelines for school breakfast and lunch programs, only MPS students are eligible to receive meals. To pick up a meal from a Stop, Grab, & Go location, students and families will need to provide the following information:

·     Student’s first and last name or student ID number

·     Student’s school name

·     Student’s grade level

Virtual Family Engagement Session

All parents/guardians are invited to our Virtual Family Engagement session.

Virtual Learning: Understanding Academic Expectations

Wednesday, September 9, from 5:30 to 7:00 P.M

This session will help families understand expectations for students in AP/IB, Early

Childhood, Bilingual, Montessori, and Special Education programs during Phase One of the MPS Reopening Plan.

Fall Athletics--Suspended Until Further Notice

To maintain the health and safety of athletes, teams, coaches, and spectators, MPS is suspending all fall sports. This decision will be reviewed regularly as pandemic conditions evolve. Students, families, and staff will receive updates as new decisions are made.

IMPORTANT!! Opt in to Receive District Text Messages

MPS is now using SchoolMessenger to send text messages to families with the latest updates, safety alerts, school closings, and more. Families should send a text message to 67587 to connect to the new system. In the message, send Y or YES to ensure that you continue to receive important texts from your school and the district.

Virtual Field Trips

Add variety to learning through virtual field trips! Each week in the Family Friday Newsletter, links to four new trips are provided to help families explore museums, zoos, parks, and historic sites around the world. Read more and view the complete list of field trips featured so far, and explore the world!

MPS Reads

Every month, MPS offers recommended reading on the MPS Reads web page. Books are selected for all grade levels, and lists are available in a printable format that can be taken to the library or bookstore. Many books are accessible through Overdrive for free. Set a weekly reading goal and enjoy some great books!

Parent Portal Technical Support

Live Parent Portal (Infinite Campus) support is available from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday.

To recover a username/password: Parents/guardians should email parentportal@milwaukee.k12.wi.us. Include the parent/guardian name, child’s name, birth date, and a contact number. If you do not receive a phone call or email within 24 hours, please call (414) 475-8159 for further assistance.
