Congratulations, Graduates!

MPS will host in-person graduation ceremonies to honor all students who have earned the right to wear a cap and gown. Ceremonies will be held May 31 through June 3, 2022. A livestream will be available of the in-person ceremonies. Help us celebrate!

Summer Academy-Enroll Now!

Summer will be here soon! Sign up now to reserve your spot in Summer Academy. MPS has summer programs for students in K5 through grade 12. Summer programs are free for students living in the city of Milwaukee. Some sites offer after-school care for a fee.

  • Summer Academy begins June 9 for students in early start schools.
  • Summer Academy begins July 6 for students in traditional start schools.

Summer learning is designed to be fun and to support skill building. Students who attend a summer session start stronger in fall and feel better prepared for the challenges of the next grade level.

New this year: College 101 courses that earn both high school and college credit!

Detailed information and online registration are available on the MPS Summer Academy web page. Registration will close two weeks prior to the session. Seats may be limited. Sign up soon!

Last Day of School

The 2021-22 school year is winding down! It's time to get ready for summer.

Early Start Schools: Last day of student attendance is Thursday, May 26, 2022.

Traditional Start Schools: Last day of student attendance is Wednesday, June 15, 2022.


Coming Soon! Avoid Summer Slide

Waterslides are fun in the summer, but let's all do our best to avoid summer slide! Children lose a great amount of learning over the summer and have to catch up again in fall. Reading a few minutes a day can help students keep their skills sharp. Watch this newsletter over the summer for easy and helpful tips to help keep kids reading and get access to books.

District Highlight of the Week

STEM Fair Showcases Students

This May, more than 200 projects by MPS students from 37 schools were presented during the 15th annual MPS STEM Fair. Students spent months designing display boards, conducting science investigations, and identifying and addressing engineering design problems to compete in the annual event. A team of volunteers and judges helped organize, exhibit, and judge student presentations.

Herb Kohl Awardees

Awards for excellence in teaching and student scholarships for 2022 have been announced by the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation. Eleven MPS students received scholarships and three teachers were recognized for exceptional work in education.

MPS Releases Preliminary Budget

Milwaukee Public Schools has released the 2022–23 proposed budget totaling $1.3 billion. The superintendent’s proposal represents a student-focused budget. Ninety-one cents of every dollar budgeted in the School Operations Fund is used to support students, schools, and school staff.

Earn and Learn Summer Youth Jobs

Milwaukee youth ages 14 to 24 are eligible for the Milwaukee Earn and Learn program. Jobs and internships are available starting at $12.21 per hour. Work 20 hours per week during the summer and gain valuable career skills. For more information, visit the City of Milwaukee Earn and Learn program website.

Is your child up to date on vaccines? The City of Milwaukee Health Department offers free vaccines for children who qualify. Protect your child from measles, mumps, whooping cough, hepatitis A and B, and more!

MPS is offering free COVID-19 testing for students and staff at three locations.

Wednesdays, 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

COVID-19 vaccine is available FREE for all Wisconsin residents age 5 and older. Health insurance is NOT needed. Call the hotline at (414) 286-6800 for questions, to schedule an appointment or home visit, or to speak with a nurse.

Live Parent Portal (Infinite Campus) support is available from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday.
