COVID-19 Testing Consent
MPS offers free COVID-19 rapid testing for students and staff. Families can fill out a consent form to be kept on file with their child’s school. If a child shows symptoms of COVID-19, the school can arrange to have the child quickly tested. Children who have signed consent forms are also eligible for testing if a classroom, group, or the school needs to undergo testing.
If you have not already done so, visit mpsmke.com/covidtesting to access the COVID-19 Student Testing Consent Form or download a flyer to access a QR code. Contact your child’s school with any questions.
News and Updates
MPS Lifts Mask Mandate
Beginning April 18, 2022, and when students return to school on April 19, masks will no longer be required for students and staff in MPS schools and buildings. The wearing of masks will be optional at all MPS locations.
The decision was explored on March 24, 2022, during the regular monthly meeting of the Milwaukee Board of School Directors. Discussion included analysis of current trends of COVID-19 and recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Milwaukee Health Department. The April 18 date was selected to avoid any possible surges in COVID-19 following various dates for spring break across the state.
Visitors to MPS buildings are asked to make an appointment and masks are recommended for visitors.

Student Meal Benefits for MPS Families
Families–find out if you are eligible for food benefits for your child during the pandemic!
The State of Wisconsin is compensating families for breakfast and lunch meals that students would normally receive in school but are unavailable when schools close due to COVID-19. MPS is committed to working with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) to make sure all families with eligible children get the benefits they need.
Most benefits will be provided on families’ existing QUEST or P-EBT cards. If a family is getting benefits for the first time, a new card will be sent to them in the mail.
In March, 2022, families began to receive benefits for the months of August, September, and October of 2021.
