Parent-Teacher Conferences

All MPS schools are hosting Parent-Teacher Conferences in March. This is your chance to learn about your child’s progress, ask questions, and talk about solutions to individual needs. Don't miss this opportunity to talk with your child's teacher one-on-one and celebrate your child's progress! Teachers will be able to provide updates and recommendations tailored to each student's individual needs.

Parents and guardians should be alert for information from schools about scheduling conferences for each child. Conferences will take place virtually. Students do not have classes Friday, March 19, 2021, to help accommodate conferences.

Kindergarten Enrollment Is Open until March 21, 2021

Will your child turn 3, 4, or 5 years old by September 1, 2021? It's time to enroll for Head Start and kindergarten! Learn about MPS schools and how to enroll. Read more about enrollment.

Youth Apprentice Information Session

MPS youth apprentices receive on-the-job training while still in high school! High school sophomores and juniors, along with parents/guardians, can learn more about youth apprenticeships at a virtual information session on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at 6:00 P.M. via Zoom. Mark your calendar and register through our form by March 22. A link will be provided after registration.

Spring Break Virtual Adventures

The Urban Ecology Center and Wisconsin Humane Society are hosting free virtual adventures for children in grades K5 - 6 during spring break. To learn more, visit the Extended Learning Opportunities webpage.

Career Exploration

Real Estate Exchange Summer Program for high school juniors and seniors: Attend this virtual program July 12-23, 2021, to learn about careers in commercial real estate. Interested students should go to to learn more and find out how to obtain a scholarship and apply for the program. Note that students must email to indicate interest and receive an application fee waiver prior to applying. Deadline is March 31, 2021.

High school girls are invited to a workshop, Young Women in Commercial Real Estate, to learn about real estate careers including banking, engineering, design, and management. Learn more and register at Menomonee River Valley Partners. A group session will take place April 21, 2021, and a mentor session will take place March 17 or March 31, 2021.

Explore speech-language pathology careers on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at 2:15 p.m. This workshop is free for students and is sponsored by Milwaukee Area Health Education Center, Northeast Wisconsin Area Health Education Center, and Inspire Sheboygan County. Register to participate at

Weekend Meal Bundles

MPS is now offering weekend meals for children at Stop, Grab, and Go locations each Friday. All children age 18 and under can take home breakfast, lunch, and supper for Friday, plus breakfast and lunch for Saturday and Sunday. Wisconsin Challenge Academy Information Session

Wisconsin Challenge Academy is a live-in program at Fort McCoy in western Wisconsin where girls and boys can get on track to graduate. In a structured environment, students focus on academics, physical fitness, leadership, life skills, citizenship, and more. Students return to their MPS school to complete high school and graduate. Information sessions will be held on two dates. Registration is required; a Zoom link will be sent after registration.

MPS Job Fair--Teachers Wanted!

FoodShare for All MPS Families

All Milwaukee Public Schools children are eligible for benefits because the district offers free lunch to all students and has been virtual all school year. Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) funds are available to families of all Wisconsin children who have been learning from home and are eligible for free or reduced lunch. Parents of school-aged children who currently receive FoodShare benefits will have P-EBT benefits added to the existing QUEST card. Families who do not receive FoodShare benefits need to complete a FoodShare application at  

Daylight Savings Time

Families are reminded that Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, March 14, 2021, at 2:00 A.M. Clocks should be set forward one hour to reflect the time change.

Daylight Savings Time was first proposed by Benjamin Franklin in 1784 to make better use of natural daylight. Daylight Savings Time was first tested in the United States in 1974 during the energy crisis and has undergone a number of changes since that time. The current schedule has been followed since 2007.

If you're every confused about how to set your clocks, just remember the helpful adage: Spring forward, fall back.

Health and Safety Tips for Returning to Classrooms

As the time approaches for students to return to in-person learning, children and families will have questions about safety. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers helpful tips, videos, and flyers to help families prepare. Families are encouraged to review materials and start talking with children about ways to safely return to classrooms.



MPS Foundation

The Milwaukee Public Schools Foundation coordinates a number of scholarships, some of which are available only to MPS students. The Ruth Bader Ginsberg scholarship provides $2,000 per year for undergraduate study plus an option for $10,000 per year for a young woman who attends law school. Check out these amazing opportunities! Many scholarships have deadlines of March 26, 2021--apply now!

National Association of Black Accountants

Students interested in attending college to pursue business, accounting, or finance can apply for a $1,000 scholarship from the Milwaukee Chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants. Deadline is April 15, 2021. Scholarships are available for graduating seniors or for current college students. For more information and application links, visit

Need Money for College? Fill out the FAFSA!

The first step in finding money for college is to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Spring Youth Sports Clinics

Milwaukee Recreation is offering a series of instructional classes for students in outdoor soccer, softball, track, volleyball, and tennis! Register now and find more information on the available clinics. Group sizes will be limited; masks/face coverings will be required for the safety of all participants, spectators, staff, and instructors.

With children spending several hours each day online, keeping them safe is more important than ever. Nationwide, law enforcement is seeing a spike in complaints about Internet scams and predators. Each month, MPS provides a list of recommended books for preschool through grade 12 that allows students to see themselves, explore other cultures, and discover more about the world in which they live.

Free Fresh Produce for Children Continues in March

MPS will continue to offer bags of fresh fruits and vegetables to children in March through the federal Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. Each bag will contain nutrition facts and recipes so families can cook together and enjoy new healthy food options. Learn more on the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program web page.

Families can pick up a produce bag March 4, 11, 18, and 25 at Stop, Grab, and Go locations during regular meal distribution hours of 11:00 A.M. to 1:30 P.M.

Ophelia King Receives Friend of School Counseling Award

Milwaukee Public Schools congratulates Ophelia King, Manager II School Counseling, in the Department of College and Career Readiness. King has been recognized with the 2021 Wisconsin School Counselor Association’s Friend of School Counseling Award. Summer Academy Registration Is Open

Get ready for Summer Academy! Visit for all the details.

Grades K5-8 can take part in a six-week camp with weekly themes in art, music, math, science, and literacy. Session runs June 22 to July 29 from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.

Middle and high school students can catch up on credits or get ahead. Two sessions are available: June 7-July 2 and July 6-29 from 8:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M.

No Meal Distribution March 19

Extra Meals March 18

MPS does not distribute meals to students on scheduled days off. Breakfast, lunch, and supper will not be distributed on Friday, March 19, 2021.

Children can receive extra meals on Thursday, March 18, ahead of the break. All children age 18 and under can receive their breakfast, lunch, and supper meals for Thursday and Friday, plus breakfast and lunch for Saturday and Sunday.

Live Parent Portal (Infinite Campus) support is available from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday.
