04-02-20 MPS Staff Update from Human Resources

I hope you and your loved ones are staying healthy during this difficult time. We appreciate your patience and support as we navigate this unprecedented situation. I also want to thank and share my appreciation for all of the staff who have been on the frontline and actively engaging and supporting our students and families during this school closure. Our buildings may be closed, but through all of your efforts we remain open and committed to providing the best education and support to our students.

On Friday, March 13, 2020, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers ordered the closure of all Wisconsin K-12 schools beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2020, and ending on Sunday, April 5, 2020.

On Tuesday, March 17, 2020, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers extended the closure of all Wisconsin K-12 schools indefinitely and on Friday, March 24, at the direction of Gov. Evers, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) issued a Safer at Home Order limiting public gatherings and limiting work to essential business functions as outlined in the order.

As we continue to monitor local, state, and national guidelines and recommendations regarding COVID-19, we are reaching out to share staff expectations during the current closure and upon the expiration of the Safer at Home Order on April 24, 2020.

On April 6, 2020, the employee groups listed below who work twelve (12) months on the 260-day payroll calendar will be required to be available during normal business hours while working remotely. Voicemails and emails must be checked on a regular basis and responded to within 24 hours. There may be times in which you will be required to report to an MPS building to perform certain essential duties; your supervisor will reach out to schedule this work:

  • All 12-month central office staff (excludes building service helpers)
  • All 12-month school-based principals
  • All 12-month school-based clerical staff
  • Limited Term Employees (LTE) and TalentBridge staff can work remotely based on their supervisor’s needs and only with their supervisor’s permission.Supervisors will reach out to individual LTEs and TalentBridge staff to advise them if they are to work remotely.

On April 6, 2020, the employee groups listed below who work twelve (12) months on the 260-day payroll calendar will be required to report to their regular work locations:

  • 12-month Recreation groundskeepers & Recreation facilities manager
  • All 12-month school engineers
  • Boiler attendants & boiler attendant trainees
  • All skilled trades staff
  • No building service helpers will report

On April 14, 2020, the employee groups listed below who work eleven (11) months on the 220-day payroll calendar and identified staff on the 200-day payroll calendar will be required to be available during normal business hours while working remotely. Voicemails and emails must b e checked on a regular basis and responded to within 24 hours. There may be times in which you will be required to report to an MPS building to perform certain essential duties; your supervisor will reach out to schedule this work:

  • All 11-month school-based principals
  • All assistant principals
  • All deans of students
  • All 11-month school-based clerical staff
  • All special education supervisors
  • LTEs and TalentBridge staff can work remotely based on their supervisor’s needs and only with their supervisor’s permission. Supervisors will reach out to individual LTEs and TalentBridge staff to advise them if they are to work remotely.

On April 27, 2020, the employee groups listed below will return to their regular work location:

  • All districtwide 12-month staff
  • All districtwide 11-month staff
  • All special education supervisors
  • All safety supervisors
  • All deans of students
  • All building service helpers
  • LTEs and TalentBridge staff can return to work only with their supervisor’s permission. Supervisors will reach out to individual LTEs and TalentBridge staff to advise them if they are to return to work.

Please note that this situation is fluid therefore, we may make changes to work schedules and locations as appropriate. The return date for any employee group not listed above is under consideration for remote or regular work locations.

Gov. Evers may change his orders at any time, which could impact our work schedules and locations. We are in constant communication with state and local officials, and we will keep you informed of any changes to the planned work schedules and locations.
