Follow The Money

Each fiscal year the Milwaukee Public School Board approves a new annual budget, which outlines how district dollars should by allocated.  In contrast, Follow the Money provides an actual view of this spending after the conclusion of FY16.  Meaning, Follow the Money represents the clearest view of how tax dollars are actually allocated and spent within the district.

As the graph shows, the districts total expense is divided up into five individual funds.  This is done since each of these individual funds has their own corresponding revenue source.  These funds are School Operations ($948,075,370), Categorical ($152,372,518), School Nutrition ($47,450,233), Construction ($18,029,551) and Extension ($18,776,101).
