VOTING EXTENDED: DUE TO THE SCHOOL CLOSURE ON FEBRUARY 12, VOTING FOR STAFF AND STUDENTS WILL TAKE PLACE ON FEBRUARY 13.
MPS families, staff, and students are being asked to cast a ballot to determine the district-wide school calendar for the 2019–20 school year. Superintendent Dr. Keith P. Posley has recommended voting to receive a clear message about the opinions of families, students, and staff.
Students in grades 8 to 11 along with all staff members will vote in school on Wednesday, February 13. School households have received ballots and return envelopes for their children to deliver back to their school. Parents and guardians also have the option to vote in person at their child’s school any time through the end of the school day on February 13.
Voting will take place to decide between one of two calendar options. Both calendars offer the same number of days of instruction. Complete calendars detailing the entire school year have been distributed to families and staff.
Option1: One School Calendar
All schools will operate on the same calendar, with school beginning August 26, 2019.
Option 2: Dual Calendars (Early Start Calendar and Traditional Calendar)
This plan would continue the current calendar model with middle and high schools on the Early Start Calendar (beginning school on August 12, 2019) and most elementary schools on the Traditional Calendar (beginning school on September 3, 2019).
After all votes are counted, Superintendent Posley will recommend the selected calendar to the Milwaukee Board of School Directors for approval at February Board meetings.
A detailed version of both calendars appears below.
