About
Milwaukee German Immersion School (MGIS) is Wisconsin’s first immersion program and the only German immersion school in the state. MGIS’ total early immersion approach makes bilingualism possible for students from many language backgrounds and learning styles. German is the only language of instruction in K4, K5, and 1st grade classrooms. English-language instruction starts in 2nd grade, but even then MGIS students continue to use German as their primary language in math, science, social studies, and reading. This approach to learning has been proven to work as MGIS exceeds academic expectations in all subject areas.
MGIS has won numerous honors through the years for its academic success, while at the same time it has consistently had one of the largest PTAs in the state and won multiple state chess championships (it also runs the largest chess club or program in Wisconsin).
As a PASCH Initiative partner, MGIS is part of a global network of nearly 2000 schools that place a high value on German. Fifth graders take the DSD-Level A2 (Deutsche Sprachdiplom), which is the official German language exam and a gateway to German university enrollment.
Families can enroll in this school for grades K4, K5 and 1 using the online application at mpsmke.com/EnrollMPS.
