Welcome, Dr. Cassellius! New MPS superintendent visits North Division, Bethune

Dr. Brenda Cassellius has officially started in her new role as MPS superintendent! Her first stops on March 17, 2025, were North Division High School and Bethune Academy to see programs in action.

Dr. Cassellius at North DivisionAt North Division, Dr. Cassellius first met with school leadership and representatives from the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC). She then toured geometry, art, and physical education spaces, checked out the renovated swimming pool, learned about programs in construction and welding, and experienced the Wisconsin Bike Fed program and the high school's nursing lab and dental clinic.

Moving on to Bethune Academy, Dr. Cassellius enjoyed lunch with students in K3, K4, and grade 7 before touring the playground and early childhood wing and taking part in an art class. The visit was capped off by a roundtable discussion in the library with students and staff.

Dr. Cassellius has more visits scheduled throughout the rest of the week and has voiced her commitment to leveraging district strengths and making a difference for students and staff.

Bethune Academy is located at 1535 N. 35th St., Milwaukee, 53208.
