Verizon Unveils Innovative Learning Lab at Longfellow School

Verizon Unveils Innovative Learning Lab at Longfellow SchoolMilwaukee Public Schools is proud to announce the unveiling of a Verizon Innovative Learning Lab at H. W. Longfellow School, made possible by Verizon through a partnership with Heart of America and the J. Orin Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute at Arizona State University. The new lab will give students and teachers access to emerging technology such as augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), 3D printing, and artificial intelligence (AI).

Longfellow is the second school in MPS to receive an Innovative Learning Lab, with O.W. Holmes School opening a lab in 2021. Eleven other MPS schools are part of the Verizon family and offer Verizon Innovative Learning as part of the curriculum. An Immersive Media Lab is on the horizon for one MPS school during the 2023-24 school year.

As part of Verizon’s commitment to digital inclusion, Verizon works with its nonprofit partners to provide free technology, free internet access, and hands-on learning experiences to help students receive the education they deserve to help prepare them for today’s digital economy. With the goal to fundamentally change the way teachers teach and students learn, Verizon Innovative Learning is giving students hands-on experiences with emerging technologies. Heart of America leads the transformation of the state-of-the-art space in collaboration with school and district teams, and the J. Orin Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute at Arizona State University provides a project-based curriculum and training for teachers.

“We are excited for the learning opportunities that will be possible for our students through expanding our network of Verizon Innovative Learning Labs at MPS,” said Dr. Keith P. Posley, MPS superintendent. “This lab will allow children to enhance their technological skills to prepare for college and will introduce options in the growing career areas of computer science.”

H. W. Longfellow School is located at 1021 S. 21st St., Milwaukee, 53204.
