Milwaukee Public Schools high school students are sharing their joy: Artwork by MPS students on the theme of joy is on view at the Museum of Wisconsin Art in West Bend through Sunday, July 21.
The exhibition is called “This Little Light of Mine: A Teen Perspective on Joy.” The museum’s Teen Council invited teens from throughout the metro area to participate in the museum’s annual special exhibition. The exhibition focuses on contemporary issues and thought.
Students were asked to consider how their lives foster joy and express it in their art. They were instructed to view the exhibition as a means to celebrate everyday and extraordinary joys, and reflect on the things that nourish their souls, according to the museum.
The exhibition “encourages teens to be mindful of what fills their own cup but also how they contribute to the joy of others,” the museum says on its website.
The participating MPS schools are:
Bradley Technology and Trade School
Golda Meir High School
Alexander Hamilton High School
Harold S. Vincent School of Agricultural Science
Marshall High School
Milwaukee High School of the Arts
In all, the exhibition includes artwork from students at 33 high schools in metro Milwaukee. Art educators from each school chose one artwork to represent their school.
The museum, at 205 Veterans Ave. in West Bend, is open 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. through Sunday. Admission is $15 for one person, $25 for two, and $50 for four adults and any children younger than 18. Children 4 and younger are admitted free.
