MPS will distribute surveys to inform development of five-year strategic plan

MPS Central ServicesMilwaukee Public Schools will look for feedback from all city of Milwaukee families, residents, and community partners as part of the district’s 2023 – 2028 strategic planning process. On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, the school district will distribute surveys to MPS students, families, and staff, along with residents of the city of Milwaukee. Some survey participants will have the opportunity to participate in focus groups later in the year. The information collected will help MPS identify priorities and performance targets over the next five years.

“MPS already offers the most robust network of academic and career readiness programs in the state,” said Dr. Keith P. Posley, MPS Superintendent. “Now we are looking for input to help us prioritize how to expand and better deliver these vital programs. As the success of MPS students and families contributes to the success of the entire community, I invite all Milwaukee residents to share their thoughts when our surveys go live next week.”

The 2023 – 2028 MPS Strategic Plan will be aligned to the three main goals set by the Milwaukee Board of School Directors: Academic Achievement; Student, Family and Community Engagement; and Effective and Efficient Operations. The Plan will include accountability measures and annual performance targets for each year the Plan is in place.

The MPS Strategic Plan is outlined within the policies of the Office of Board Governance of the Milwaukee Board of School Directors. The Plan guides the process for implementing the district’s overall improvement plan for the twenty-first century.

MPS Strategic Plan Resolution 2122R-008 was approved by the Board of School Directors in October 2021. The Plan will be aligned with the Baldridge Excellence Framework to enhance the district's performance through innovation and improvement. The Plan will be drafted with input from all MPS offices. Additional stakeholder feedback will be collected through February that will provide additional insights to the planning process. A final report, including findings and recommendations, will be shared in late spring. The 2023 – 2028 MPS Strategic Plan will be implemented by July 2023.
