MPS schools welcome students on Thursday, September 2

Teachers and principals are ready to welcome students back to class! Milwaukee Public Schools students on the traditional calendar will go back to classrooms on Thursday, September 2, 2021. Schools on the early start calendar (all high schools, traditional middle schools, and connected elementary schools) went back to class on Monday, August 16.

MPS is especially excited this year to get the school year underway. Many health and safety measures are in place so students can experience an excellent year of in-person learning.

All families should check with their child’s school to be sure of student start times and make sure children are on time every day.

The district has published a Family Guide to In-Person Learning to provide answers to many questions families will have about returning to school buildings. Translations will be available in Arabic, Hmong, Karen, Rohingya, Somali, and Spanish. Visit and look in the Quick Links section.

Families who have not yet registered their children still have time to sign up. Students can be enrolled online at

For more information about the 2021–22 school year, visit the MPS Roadmap to Readiness website.

Help your child have a great school year. Be ready and be on time for the first day!
