To safeguard the health of students, families, and staff, MPS continues to monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers declared a public health emergency in Wisconsin on Thursday, March 12, 2020, in response to growing concerns about COVID-19. In response, MPS is adopting recommendations and guidelines set forth by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
To help minimize the potential spread of COVID-19, MPS will implement a preventive measure by limiting nonessential participation in large gatherings.
The district may implement social distancing by making adjustments to the following types of large gatherings:
- Morning meetings
- School meals
- School assemblies/events
- Hall passing
- Parent/teacher conferences
We are observing that a number of large group conferences and events are being canceled in the coming weeks. Therefore, MPS is canceling all district sponsored out-of-state travel through the end of spring break (April 13, 2020). We also encourage families to avoid nonessential out-of-state travel over the same period. We continue to assess the situation as it progresses, and we will provide additional information as it becomes available.
In addition, several MPS and Milwaukee Recreation events have been cancelled.

March 14: Competitive Swim Meet at Riverside University High School
