Adam Murphy, a music instructor at Reagan, was chosen for the Teachers are Tops recognition award, presented by Educators Credit Union and CW18/MY24.
The award celebrates outstanding teachers who work both in and out of the classroom to enhance student success. Judges who reviewed multiple nominations choose Murphy because he is a teacher who “inspires an endless parade of students to meet his very high musicianship standards. A model of excellence in education, a composer, and a guest conductor – Adam Murphy is the heartbeat of music at Reagan High School.”
Murphy works with a dynamic team of music instructors who inspire over 600 students annually in composition, performance, recording, and broadcasting music. Murphy teaches beginning, intermediate, and advanced band as well as the IB Diploma Program Music 2. He is deeply vested in multiple community partnerships including: Radio Reagan, DJ Club, marching band, jazz band, string orchestra, pit orchestra, percussion ensemble, ReaganFest, and many other music-based programs both in and outside of the Reagan campus. Each year, the Reagan high school auditorium is filled with vibrant musical performances at multiple concerts hosted by the talented team members of its music department.
Murphy will be recognized on the air (CW18/MY24) and will receive a commemorative plaque along with a bountiful gift basket and a $200 gift card to The Learning Shop provided by the Educators Credit Union.
Milwaukee Public Schools is working to redefine the MPS experience by expanding fine arts programs. The plan, which is part of the district's Eight Big Ideas, aims to provide every student in the district with a high-quality arts education, both in and out of the classroom, improve school climate and culture, increase student and parent engagement, and improve academic achievement.
