Burke Foundation donates $40,457 to support funding requests from MPS teachers on

MPS teacherMilwaukee Public Schools teachers seeking funds for everything from classroom supplies to sporting equipment will have their requests fulfilled thanks to a donation from The Burke Foundation.

The Burke Foundation announced on December 17 that it was making a one-time contribution to of $40,457 to fund all MPS projects listed on the site as of December 15, 2015. Requested items listed by MPS teachers included projectors, microscopes, sporting equipment, room dividers, whiteboards, and supplementary curriculum. is a web-based platform that allows teachers to post their wish lists for teaching materials and connects them to individuals and organizations that help fund their requests.

Burke Foundation Logo“Milwaukee teachers work incredibly hard every day to make a difference in the lives of young people in our city. We want to do something to directly support them,” said Kathy Burke, Burke Foundation board director and daughter of the late Richard Burke, former chairman of Trek Bicycle Corporation. “We hope that this gift will inspire others to consider helping teachers through the platform in the future.”

Richard Burke believed investing in opportunities for young people was key to improving communities and left his estate to the foundation to continue that work.
