High School Early Admissions

Information for current MPS 8th grade families

All MPS Parents/Guardians with an 8th Grade student must use a Parent Portal account to access the online Early Admissions application for High School in 2017-18 (Contact your child’s school if you do not have a Parent Portal account). The Parent Portal account will prepopulate the Early Admissions application with the family/student’s Infinite Campus demographic information, which will allow the application process to be much quicker.

The Early Admissions application process will begin on October 10, 2016 and end at 11:59 pm on November 19, 2016. The Early Admissions application process is not first come first served.  An Early Admissions applications submitted on the October 10, 2016 will not be weighted any differently than Early Admissions applications submitted on November 19, 2016.

High School open houses for Early Admissions will begin in October. The open house dates and times will be posted on the Early Admissions MPS Home page. Students are encouraged to visit all high schools that they are interested in attending. All Select Criteria High Schools have additional requirements that must completed at the school. Please access the Select Criteria School link located in the “Quick Links” box on this webpage for details.

If your student was not a Milwaukee Public Schools student in 7th grade you have additional requirements. You will be prompted to complete the following during your online Early Admissions application:

  • Upload their 7th grade report card (The report card should be in PDF or JPG format).
  • Enter 7th grade ELA & Math standardized assessment scores.
    ** Finding your student’s percentile rank
  • Enter 7th grade attendance data (present days and total number of school days).

All MPS 8th grade students will complete an essay for the 8th grade Early Admissions process. The essay topic and criteria can be found here. This essay will be written in class during the week of October 17 in conjunction with National Day of Writing on October 20. The 8th grade teachers will confirm that each student has a completed and submitted an essay in the MyAccess program.

Information for non-MPS 8th grade families

All non-MPS Parents/Guardians with an 8th Grade student complete an online Early Admissions application for High School in 2017-18. You can either attend an Application Support Session or access the online site directly. For more information on the support sessions please access the Application Support Sessions link located in the “Quick Links” box on this webpage. To enter the Early Admissions online application system, please use the link provided at the bottom of this page.

  • A separate application that does not require a Parent Portal account will be available for families who are not currently in MPS.
  • The online application will not be able to be completed unless the following items are available to electronically attach to the application:
    1. Personal essay
    2. 7th grade report card
    3. ELA/Math Standardized Assessment Scores must be accurate
    4. 7th grade attendance data must be accurate
  • If you have hard copies of documents or are unable to attach them to the application, bring them to an MPS Application Support Session and we will assist you in scanning and attaching the documents.

Welcome! The high school early enrollment period for the 2017-18 school year is now open through November 19! Applications for current and future MPS families are available at the above links. Join us at one of our Application Support Sessions for asssistance in completing your application.
