Attention High School Seniors!
Milwaukee Public Schools’ TEAM UP College Access Centers will be providing free, professional help completing the 2016-17 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Fridays in March.
Students and families are invited to stop by the College Access Centers for Friday FAFSA Frenzy:
- March 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- March 11 from 2 to 7 p.m.
- March 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Students who complete the FAFSA will also have the chance to win a "Dorm Essentials" package of items to help a student adjust to dorm life. A random drawing will be held on April 5, 2016 for all students who complete FAFSA during Friday FAFSA Frenzy events.
— completing your FAFSA is a requirement for students who have applied to the MATC Promise Program and all colleges.
What to bring to a 2016 Friday FAFSA Frenzy event:
- 2015 W-2 forms
- your tax forms (if you filed) and your parents' tax forms
- copies of your 2015 tax forms, if they are ready
If you or your parents have not yet filed your 2015 returns before you attend a 2016 Friday FAFSA Frenzy event, be sure to bring any statements of interest earned in 2015, any 1099 forms, and any other forms required to complete your taxes. This will allow you and your parents to submit your FAFSA online during the event. You will then need to go back to the FAFSA and submit corrections once tax returns are filed. The IRS Data Retrieval Tool will be available to help submit your corrections accurately within a few weeks after your tax file date.
Milwaukee Public Schools, in collaboration with local, state, and national partners, operates two community-based College Access Centers within the Greater Milwaukee area — one in the Midtown area of Milwaukee’s north side and the other in the south side region of Milwaukee.
These centers provide students and families with direct services easily accessible via public transportation and within close proximity to resources that families typically frequent, such as grocery stores and other retail ventures. These community-based locations support the college access outreach efforts of Milwaukee Public Schools and engage families in the support and reinforcement of college attendance for Milwaukee students in centers focused on college attainment.
Operation of the College Access Centers is funded by Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation, to help the people of Greater Milwaukee harness the power of higher education to change their lives for the better.
