Family Empowerment University

The MPS Family Empowerment University is a collection of workshops and development opportunities designed to support MPS families and schools working as equal partners in student success and school improvement. Please see below for current sessions open to registration. Look on the right hand side for other opportunities and more information.

Register for the Fall 2016 MPS 101-Families as Partners Institute

Starting in October, MPS will be explanding its offerings of the MPS 101 - Families as Partners Institute. This eight-week training course provides families with all the information they need to successfully support their students in MPS. Topics covered include standards based report cards, programming options, how to use Infinite Campus, parent rights and leadership opportunities, and many more. Please consider registering for this first ever session and help shape future sessions.

Starting in November, MPS will be piloting a Special Education Leaders Institute. This six-week training course provides families with all the information they need to successfully support their students in MPS. Topics covered include standards navigating the special education maze, understanding the IEP process, transition planning, serving on groups, and many more. Please consider registering for this first ever session and help shape future sessions.

Starting in October, MPS will be explanding its offerings of the Gear Up Parent Academy - now the M3 College and Career Ready Families Institute. This six-week training course provides families with all the information they need to support their high school student to graduation and on to and through post-secondary education. Topics covered include graduation requirements, academic and career plans, admissions requirements, financial aid/scholarships and many more. Please consider registering for a session at a school near you!

Workshops:

If you are an external agency willing to provide free workshops to MPS families, please fill out our interest form to become an MPS Family Empowerment Partner.

If you are a family member, please contact your school's Parent Coordinator to request specific workshops to be offered at your school.

Institutes: 
  • MPS 101-Families As Partners Institute – An eight-week training opportunity that provides a MPS 101, appropriate for all families that want to better understand how to navigate MPS and access its many resources. 
  • M3 College & Career Ready Families Institute – A six-week training opportunity for families seeking to learn what it takes to get their student to and through college. 
  • Special Education Leadership Institute - A six-week training opportunity that provides resources and knowledge to families that have students with IEPs.
