Project Metro
It’s been quite a month in Milwaukee Public Schools! We have so many things to celebrate as we end the school year and look forward to 2016-17.
MPS was at the White House when First Lady Michelle Obama announced Milwaukee Public Schools as the newest in a select group of districts to join Turnaround Arts! Four MPS schools – Dr. King, Jr., Lancaster, Sherman, and Roosevelt – are the only schools in Wisconsin to be selected. This program is proven to improve student outcomes by integrating the arts across the curriculum.
Ten MPS elementary schools celebrated a successful first year of the My Very Own Library program, sponsored by Scholastic and United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha. Over the next three years, every student at these schools will select ten books a year to build their own home libraries and their love of reading.
Congratulations to the members of the Class of 2016! Many of our students are headed to colleges including the Air Force Academy, the University of Southern California, the United States Naval Academy, the University of Chicago, Spelman College, Morehouse College, UWM, and MATC just to name a few. We wish them the very best.
Thank you for your continued support. It truly makes a difference in the lives of our young people. Stay connected to MPS over the summer by liking us on Facebook, following us on Twitter and checking the MPS website.
Best,
Darienne B. Driver Superintendent of Schools
