Enrollment is open! Now is the time to visit schools, make a selection, and enroll your child in Head Start or kindergarten. All MPS students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Transportation and before- and after-school care are available; each school can provide details.
Preschool is available through the federal Head Start program for families who meet income limits. Head Start prepares children for school and teaches important early skills, and is available at no cost to families. Participation in Head Start has been shown to improve success in school.
The Head Start office can assist with applications, which must be made in person with required documents. Visit the Lee Learning Center at 921 W. Meinecke Ave., call 414-252-0350, or visit the District Welcome Center (see below).
Kindergarten is available across the city. Call an MPS school or the District Welcome Center for information and to find out about transportation options. Wisconsin law requires children to complete five-year-old kindergarten before entering first grade.
3-year-old Kindergarten: Limited programs are available at some schools. Children must turn 3 by September 1 to be eligible.
4-year-old Kindergarten: Programs are available at most schools across the district. Children must turn 4 by September 1 to be eligible.
