MPS honors employer partners

MPS honors employer partnersThanks to community partners willing to invest in the MPS students who will make up Milwaukee’s future workforce, more than one hundred MPS teens have been bringing home paychecks and gaining valuable job experience. Employer partners were honored this week at a breakfast event to celebrate this beneficial employer-employee relationship.

Students gained on-the-job training and valuable life skills, and many teens took the opportunity to save money for college or technical school. Employers filled many job gaps that allowed them to sustain and grow their businesses.

Available jobs also allowed students to branch out from fast food employment that is typical for teens. Students had the chance to work in health care, retail, and warehouse positions as well as automotive, manufacturing, and finance sectors.

“One of our goals is to give students exposure to career fields that interest them, or fields they might not even know exist,” said Dr. John Hill, MPS Director of College and Career Readiness. “This helps young people envision a future, set goals, and start down a productive career path.”

About 21 employers attended the breakfast, which was hosted at Goodwill Industries’ James O. Wright Center.

MPS thanks the many employer partners who have invested in MPS students.
