MPS Foundation and MPS Host Inaugural Alumni Weekend

MILWAUKEE - August 23, 2017: Milwaukee Public Schools and the MPS Foundation are excited to welcome back alumni at a variety of events this month. Graduates of all MPS schools are invited to reconnect with classmates and find out what's new in the MPS district. The weekend-long celebration will include the 10th Annual Run Back to School, Alumni Dinner, picnic and gatherings.

Friday, August 25: High schools across the district will welcome alumni and friends for back-to-school gatherings. MPS alumni will meet at their former schools and participate in tours of their alma maters.

In addition, the MPS Foundation will host the first-ever Alumni Awards Dinner on August 25, which will celebrate the accomplishments of nine outstanding MPS alumni. Watch this videohighlighting the event and read the list of honorees below. This special event marks the kickoff of the Foundation's annual giving campaign.

Saturday, August 26: All runners and walkers, including MPS alumni, are invited to the 10th Annual MPS Run Back to School at Washington Park. This 5K fun run/1.5-mile walk supports MPS youth recreation and wellness programs across the district. Learn more and register here.

Following the Run Back to School, alumni are invited to a fun-filled picnic at Wick Field for another chance to connect with friends and classmates. Learn more or register here.

The Alumni Awards Dinner on August 25 will honor individuals in seven categories. The full list of awardees follows.

★ Start. Stay. Succeed. Champion Award: Michael Harris, Principal, and Nathaniel Deans, Teacher, Riverside University High School | Riverside High School Alumni
★ Outstanding Alumni Award: Patricia Contreras, Director - Global Community Relations & Contributions, Rockwell Automation | Milwaukee Tech High School Alumna
★ Young Alumni Award: Keith Stanley, Executive Director, Near West Side Partners | Rufus King High School Alumnus
★ Service Award: Jackie Herd-Barber, Community Volunteer Extraordinaire | Custer High School Alumna
★ Corporate Partner Award: Dr. William "Bill" Berezowitz, Vice President and General Manager, GE Healthcare | Bay View High School Alumnus
★ Honorary Alumni Award: Joe and Jennifer Bartolotta, Bartolotta Restaurant Group
