Jabari Parker receives Excellence in Education Award from MPS

Dr. Driver with Jabari ParkerEach month, the Milwaukee Board of School Directors recognizes an outstanding school, student, staff member, parent, or community member for a display of excellence, achievement, and innovation that may serve as an example to our school district and the entire Milwaukee community. This month, the Milwaukee Board of School Directors is pleased to present the Excellence in Education Award to Jabari Parker. Parker is an outstanding player on the basketball court and an all-star in Milwaukee because of his dedication to improving the community that he now calls home. Parker has worked extensively with Milwaukee Public Schools and is the ambassador for district efforts to improve student attendance. He has donated basketball tickets and has supported students by conferring personal monetary awards to the Milwaukee Public Schools Foundation for scholarships. He has given tirelessly of his time and talent to Milwaukee Public Schools, and the district is very appreciative of his efforts.

After a stellar basketball career at Duke University, Parker was the Milwaukee Bucks’ first-round draft pick and the second overall pick in the 2014 National Basketball Association draft. In his freshman year, he was voted a First Team All-American by the Associated Press, Sporting News, and Sports Illustrated magazine, and was a finalist for the Naismith Trophy, Oscar Robertson Trophy, and the John R. Wooden Award. He was also named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team. Parker is making his mark with the Milwaukee Bucks as well. He earned NBA Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month honors in October 2014 and was tied for first place in scoring and second place for rebounds and steals among all rookies. Last season he posted double-figure scoring in 59 games, and this year posted double figures in 46 games, including 28 games in which he scored 20 or more points. He was also named to the 2016 USA Men’s Select Team.

The Milwaukee Board of School Directors is pleased to recognize and honor Jabari Parker for his dedication, outstanding leadership, and commitment to excellence on behalf of the students of the Milwaukee Public Schools.
