Several Milwaukee Public Schools employees were recognized in September for providing excellent customer service.
Milwaukee Public Schools needs the support of families, students and the community to help students and key to securing that help is providing a great customer service experience every time someone interacts with MPS staff. MPS recently launched the Division of Customer Service to support great service across the entire district, which is supported by the Customer Service Bureau.
When a family or community member interacts with MPS, the goal is the experience will be positive for customers and staff, said MPS Customer Service Supervisor Kellie Sigh. It’s something that resonates with National Customer Service Week, which is October 5-9.
“The heart of good customer service is forming good relationships,” Sigh said. If a student, family or community member has a good experience with MPS, it can make a lasting positive impression, which can establish strong long-term relationships over time.
The MPS Division of Customer Service has provided customer service training to more than 1,500 district employees since May 2014. Some of the basics covered include treating external and internal customers with respect, courtesy and dignity.
“Customers want to be treated well, whether they are internal or external,” Sigh said. “If we treat each other well internally, it translates to how we engage the community.”
District employees are recognized monthly during the superintendent’s address to staff for providing excellent customer service. Those individuals receive t-shirts, which say “I Got Caught Providing Excellent Customer Service.”
MPS is dedicated to providing good customer service. This means going the extra mile to help a parent work through some paperwork while enrolling their child.
“Customer service is the foundation of a good organization,” Sigh said. “We all play an important role in shaping the image of MPS and it does go back to those customer interactions.”
