Students at Franklin Elementary were all smiles this month as 400 free backpacks filled with pencils, markers, crayons, glue sticks, and more were distributed to every child. Hosted by the Kids In Need Foundation, an additional 2,100 backpacks will be given to other MPS elementary schools to assist children and families in need.
“This backpack donation would not be possible without the generous donation of Meijer, ACCO, BIC, Newell Brands, and Top Flight,” said Renay Dossman, executive director of The Kids In Need Foundation. “We’re grateful that we could partner to provide students with the supplies they need to feel confident and excited about learning.”
“We are so grateful for the outpouring of support from our partners in the community,” said MPS Interim Superintendent Dr. Keith Posley. “These are the tools our students need to do the important work of learning. They feel prepared and ready to participate when they have the supplies they need to succeed.”
The Kids In Need Foundation has provided more than $1 billion in free school supplies to students nationwide over the past 23 years.
Milwaukee Public Schools is grateful to Kids In Need and the many community members and partners who have donated and delivered school supplies to help our students have a successful school year.
