Montesorri programs in Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) continue to grow and flourish. MPS proudly features seven district schools that provide an authentic, high-quality Montessori program to more than 3,000 Milwaukee students in grades K3–Grade 12. MPS Montessori programming began in 1976 and offers one of the most established and supported public Montessori programs in the nation. Our classrooms feature: A full complement of Montessori materials, paraprofessional teaching assistant support for primary and elementary classrooms, a K3 program and extended day K4 and K5 program funded by the Milwaukee Board of School Directors, a diverse student population that enriches the learning environment for all students, Montessori-trained mentors and support staff to guide newly trained teachers, and active and involved parents. MPS is also a leader in bilingual and language immersion education, providing high-quality programs in more than 30 MPS schools. Language education supports student achievement by promoting biliteracy: the ability to read and write in two languages. Instruction is based on academic standards with embedded cultural relevant resources. Educators utilize best practices that promote second language acquisition.
